Astronomy Star-Gazing Event at WCGC

STAR-GAZING EVENT at WCGC

WCGC will be open on the evening of April 4, 2025 for an Astronomy Night! All members, as well as family and friends are welcome to join Dr. Sean Kelly with the SBCC Earth and Planetary Science, Astronomy Department for a Star-Gazing viewing event at the Shotgun Range. 

Come at 7:00 pm to watch the sunset at about 7:23 pm. It will take a little while to get dark, but we can start looking at the planets.

Fun high-tech/hands-on star gazing gadgets will be available for use by our members and guests of all ages. There will be telescopes to look at the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter as well as any deep sky objects we can see, including the great globular cluster in Hercules, M13, the ring nebula, M57 and the Andromeda Galaxy, M31. 

Please Note:

• Please park cars facing away from the trap fields to reduce light pollution from headlights. 
  
• Bring flashlights, glow sticks, warm clothes, blankets, etc. The clubhouse will be locked, generators will be off, and only the bathrooms will be open. 
  
• WCGC will host refreshments: hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies. 
  
• Family night = no alcohol.

PS: Pursuant to our use permit with the USFS, all ranges are closed to all shooting activities after Sunset.

All participants must have a WCGC waiver on file or sign one before participating.
